'Guard of Honour' - March 2008

Sadly our founder member, Joan Hammond passed away early in 2008. Joan was always a great support to the club even after she had to retire from regular training due to illness - she was always there at the end of the phone to offer advice on certain club matters. Joan worked several of her dogs over her time with the club and had served as Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman as well as being a long term member of the obedience instructing team. She is sadly missed.

The club was asked to put together a 'Guard of Honour' to line the pathway as Joan's coffin was taken from the church after the service.

After a call to members we had a wonderful response with 21 dogs and handlers, past and present, keen to help out. Several hadn't had the pleasure of meeting Joan as they joined after she had retired from the club! All were dressed in 'club colours' which made a wonderful and fitting sight as we lined the pathway. The dogs all behavioured wonderfully, and were all silent as the bearers walked passed almost as if they knew that was the thing to do.

The service was held at St Botolph's Church in Chevening, Kent on 6th March 2008 and was conducted by the Reverend Christopher Johnson.
